I have walked and prayed for this young child an hour
And heard the sea-wind scream upon the tower,
And under the arches of the bridge, and scream
In the elms above the flood stream;
Imagining in excited reverie
That the future years had come,
Dancing to a frenzied drum,
Out of the murderous innocence of the sea.

I love that line.
You have one of the best daddy hearts ever....
I am always blessed to see what you write about Schuyler.
That's a terrific poem. Thanks for sharing this part. It was enough to make me find the rest.
Gorgeous, Rob. Just beautiful.
"Shaving" by Stephen Dobyns has always reminded me of Schuyler. And hey, someone typed it! How exciting! It is here:

Schuyler and her little pink-and-white bike are about the cutest thing I've seen, ever. Bike riding has been one of my favorite pursuits since I was just a little older than Schuyler is now, and I still love to do it. You may be introducing her to a lifelong hobby.
